As we navigate this new reality, our Parent-Teacher interviews that were scheduled to go ahead on March 18 & 19, 2020 have changed in their format. We want to ensure that all parents have an opportunity to receive student progress updates. However, we are also expected to operate our schools in a manner that ensures minimal contact as per health recommendations. Therefore, our interviews are proceeding via telephone or google hangout. Teachers will begin calling tomorrow to organize a mutually acceptable time and confirm format for the interviews.
Schools will be organizing an opportunity for parents and students to come in, in a safe manner to retrieve their supplies, material and personal effects. However, this will not happen immediately. One of the biggest reasons for this relates to how we are preparing to support content delivery for students. We want to ensure that whatever decision we make, allows us to prepare resources and materials adequately, in order for all of this to be picked up simultaneously.
Programming for Students
We can assure you that every student in every grade will receive a final mark for the classes they were enrolled in before classes were cancelled.
As mentioned above, we are working with Alberta Education and other school jurisdictions in the province to determine what continuity of programming for students will look like and what the possible methods of delivery may be. It may take some time to determine how this will work for Northern Lights students.
We want to ensure that we are able to provide students with opportunities that are valuable for them and that we will be able to provide on a consistent basis, while also dealing with the potential impact of COVID-19 on our operations, including staff who need to self-isolate or may become ill.
Once we have a plan developed, we will share details with all of our parents and students.
